What is Krill Oil?

Krills are shrimp-like crustaceans which feed on algae. The oil extracted is from the Euphausia Superba species which are rich in cell membrane building blocks.

Like fish oil, Krill oil contains both of the omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, but hooked together in a different form. Most fish and cod liver oils are in a triglyceride form, but Krill oil is in a phospholipid form which is more stable and has the addition of naturally occurring astaxanthin which helps the stabilisation process further.

Experts say Krill oil is 48 times more powerful than Omega Oils!

Review

I won’t go into the benefits of krill oil more since you can google for it. Instead I’ll talk about the product.

Value: Don’t rely on the number of gels per bottle since some brands contain less omega-3′s per capsule. This Evolution Slimming’s krill oils contain 230mg omega-3 per gel. And make sure it’s per gel since some supplement facts list per serving which can be two gels. What I did was divide the price by total amount of omega-3′s in the bottle to get a price per gram. To get the best value, make sure you get free shipping, and usually the bigger bottles are cheaper per unit. I know that the benefits of krill oil is more than omega-3′s, this was just a basic calculation.

Taste: One reason why people don’t get fish oil is because they can’t stand the taste of it. I can say that krill oil does not have any fish oil taste. If you simply swallow the gel cap, you don’t get any krill taste at all. I crushed one krill oil capsule in my mouth just to see what that tasted like, and it tastes like dried shrimp, or shrimp paste, and not much after taste. It’s a very small capsule about 1/2 the size of regular adult fish oil capsules so it should be easy to swallow.

There isn’t any doubt that omega-3 oils are good for you. Krill oil’s omega-3′s are supposed to be better and it contains astaxanthin as well. I’ve bought so many brands of omega-3s to try that I take a different one in the morning and a different one in the evening. So I’m taking some omega-3′s from fish, some from anchovies and sardines and some from krill; I assume a varied diet can only be better than a diet of only 1 kind of omega-3.
