Review

I take regular blood tests as a factor of my employment. In the past, I’ve had high cholesterol and triglycerides. Three months ago I decided to start taking Healthspark’s fish oil capsules. Two months ago I picked up this particular kind. A month ago I started taking three capsules per day, based on the fact that a coworker told me about his daily intake as directed by a doctor.

So, what was the result so far?

My triglycerides dropped over 26% in 3 months!
My overall LDL(bad) cholesterol dropped, while at the same time my HDL(good) cholesterol went up.

And these are the medically measurable results. Other things I’ve noticed:

My mood has improved dramatically. It takes a lot to break me out of a good mood now.
My hair and skin both look and feel much healthier.
I seem to have slightly lower blood pressure as well, but I can’t be sure.

If you’re taking omega 3 capsules that are NOT from fish oil, you’re wasting your money. Only fish oil has the the EPA and DHA types of Omega 3 essential fatty acids that are proven to be beneficial. This product has a combined ~300mg of EPA and DHA, which is a nice amount for a capsule. I recommend you take at least 2 caplsues per day to make a beneficial addition to your diet.

So, long story short: For me, these just plain _work_. And there is zero fishy after taste or burping. The price is right as well and free shipping if you live in UK. You have nothing to lose, just beware of the warning labels as with all supplements.

Know whether your omega-3 fish oil is any good or whether it is just one fishy bit.

We now spend over £60 million on omega 3 capsules, can you believe this?  just because we do not need any more cajoling to know that it is any good. Anyway, it seems like omega-3 is crucial for our brain and that it offers unending support for our livers, hearts, brains and the immune system.

According to one expert, many consumers of these supplements may actually be wasting their money because there might be no help or benefit in the supplements.

The poor quality of many supplements is enough to cause major concern as one expert of Omega-3, Dr Alex Richardson put it. She works with charity Food & Behavior Research. She is also one of the most renowned researchers of omega-3

Should your kid take fish oil supplements?

Omega-3 Fish oil supplements could lower blood pressure in slightly overweight teenage kids, a new study suggests, and their hearts may reap the benefits years later.

“Starting with a healthy diet and keeping it throughout life may provide better protection than waiting until later when you are more at risk,” senior researcher Dr. Lotte Lauritzen of Copenhagen University in Denmark said.

Fish oil has been shown to help lower blood pressure in adults with high blood pressure and to have beneficial effects on cholesterol levels. Lauritzen and colleagues wondered if fish oil’s benefits might be seen during the rapid growth period of adolescence.

Why You Should Take Omega 3 Fish Oil

Omega 3 fish oil seems to be one supplement that doctors routinely agree on because of all the great health benefits. It is made from the oil of fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring, or sardines and contains eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and decosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

The health benefits include :

Omega-3 Fatty Acids May Beneft Dialysis Patients

In the general population, Taking omega 3 capsules is associated with decreased serum triglycerides, serum low density lipoproteins, BP, and pulse pressure, all risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD).  CVD is the number one cause of death in CKD patients and many of the same risk factors exist in CKD patients that are in the general population, such as hypertriglyceridemia. However, it cannot be assumed that omega-3 fatty acids will have an effect in the CKD population similar to that observed in the general population.

Some cardiovascular risk factors such as elevated BMI are reversed in CKD patients, especially in the later stages. Recent studies suggest that statins, the traditional medications for reducing cardiovascular event risk, have minimal effect in CKD or end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. Therefore, omega-3 fatty acids as a lower cost therapy for CVD may be of some value.

Lack Of Omega 3 Fatty Acid Linked To Male Infertility

According to a University of Illinois study, omega 3 fatty acids may have implications for treating male infertility.

“In our experiment, we used ‘knockout’ mice that lacked the gene responsible for an enzyme important in making docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). In the absence of DHA, male mice are basically infertile, producing few if any misshaped sperm that can’t get where they need to go,” said Manabu Nakamura, a U of I associate professor of food science and human nutrition.

“We looked at sperm count, shape, and motility and tested the breeding success rate, and the mice lacking DHA simply were not able to breed,” said Manuel Roqueta-Rivera, a U of I doctoral student who also worked on the study.
